Idhayangal Charitable Trust (ICT) is an NGO, with a vision to provide funding for medical, surgical and psychological treatment for children with insulin dependent type 1 Diabetes. Currently, ICT supports more than 500 underprivileged children across the nation, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or state. These beneficiaries get the best insulin, consumables, insulin pumps, education for poor girls with Type 1 diabetes, medical insurance and rehabilitation for mothers of children with Type 1 diabetes. ICT also creates awareness among the general public by conduct of meetings, seminars and conferences that makes a positive contribution to those with type 1 diabetes. They also support research into both prevention and cure of type 1 Diabetes and engage qualified medical specialists, teachers, instructors and other staff to run medical camps, hospitals, welfare homes and relief camps.
The main force behind this organisation is Dr Krishnan Swaminathan, Managing Trustee and Consultant Endocrinologist. It has been his dream and passion to care for the needy, specially children coming from poor socio-economic background. He had conceived this project way back in 2004 when he was in Scotland with a humble Rs 800, currently Idhayangal has crossed Rs 4 crores in Charitable activities across India.
